Ingredients

3 lb fresh shiitake mushrooms

1 large onion, diced

3 tbsp cooking oil

1 tbsp salt, or to taste

1/2 tbsp ground black pepper, or to taste

1/2 cup chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Clean the shiitake mushrooms and slice them into bite-sized pieces. Dice the onion.
  2. Heat the pan: Add oil to a large frying pan and heat over medium-high heat.
  3. Cook the mushrooms: Add mushrooms and onions to the pan. Sauté for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are golden brown.
  4. Season: Sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine.
  5. Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped green onions. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Cooking mushrooms until golden brown enhances their natural umami flavor.
  • This dish pairs beautifully with eggs, mashed potatoes, or a simple salad.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a pan to restore texture and flavor.
