Description

A quick, flaky, and delicious recipe for Pigs in Blankets — puff pastry wrapped around juicy hot dog sausages, baked until golden brown. Perfect for parties, holidays, or an easy family meal!

Ingredients

1 sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry (about 32 cm / 13 inches in diameter)

6 hot dog sausages, halved (use straight, pre-cooked ones)

1 egg, lightly beaten with a dash of water (for egg wash)

12 tbsp Everything Bagel Seasoning, poppy seeds, or sesame seeds (optional)

12 tsp Dijon mustard (optional, for adults)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 210°C / 410°F (conventional, no fan). Line a large baking tray with parchment paper.

  2. Cut the pastry: Using a pizza cutter or knife, divide the round sheet of puff pastry into 12 equal wedges (like slicing a pizza).

  3. Add egg wash: Lightly brush a small amount of beaten egg in the center of the pastry circle where all the tips meet.

  4. Add sausages: Place one piece of sausage along the wide edge of each pastry wedge. (If using mustard, spread a thin line along the pastry before adding the sausage.)

  5. Roll them up: Starting from the wide end, roll each sausage toward the center, wrapping it snugly in pastry.

  6. Prepare for baking: Arrange all wrapped sausages on the lined tray. Brush the tops with remaining egg wash. Sprinkle with seasoning or seeds if desired.

  7. Bake: Place in the oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

  8. Serve: Enjoy warm, hot, or even cold with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauces

Notes

  • Use pre-cooked sausages to ensure even baking and safety.
  • For a vegetarian version, swap the sausages for veggie dogs or roasted vegetables.
  • For a festive twist, wrap each sausage with a thin slice of bacon before adding pastry.
  • Brush lightly with butter right after baking for a glossy, golden finish.
