Description
A quick, flaky, and delicious recipe for Pigs in Blankets — puff pastry wrapped around juicy hot dog sausages, baked until golden brown. Perfect for parties, holidays, or an easy family meal!
Ingredients
1 sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry (about 32 cm / 13 inches in diameter)
6 hot dog sausages, halved (use straight, pre-cooked ones)
1 egg, lightly beaten with a dash of water (for egg wash)
1–2 tbsp Everything Bagel Seasoning, poppy seeds, or sesame seeds (optional)
1–2 tsp Dijon mustard (optional, for adults)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 210°C / 410°F (conventional, no fan). Line a large baking tray with parchment paper.
-
Cut the pastry: Using a pizza cutter or knife, divide the round sheet of puff pastry into 12 equal wedges (like slicing a pizza).
-
Add egg wash: Lightly brush a small amount of beaten egg in the center of the pastry circle where all the tips meet.
-
Add sausages: Place one piece of sausage along the wide edge of each pastry wedge. (If using mustard, spread a thin line along the pastry before adding the sausage.)
-
Roll them up: Starting from the wide end, roll each sausage toward the center, wrapping it snugly in pastry.
-
Prepare for baking: Arrange all wrapped sausages on the lined tray. Brush the tops with remaining egg wash. Sprinkle with seasoning or seeds if desired.
-
Bake: Place in the oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
-
Serve: Enjoy warm, hot, or even cold with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauces
Notes
- Use pre-cooked sausages to ensure even baking and safety.
- For a vegetarian version, swap the sausages for veggie dogs or roasted vegetables.
- For a festive twist, wrap each sausage with a thin slice of bacon before adding pastry.
- Brush lightly with butter right after baking for a glossy, golden finish.
