Description

Fresh, colorful, and bursting with flavor — these Bite-Sized Caprese Appetizers are the perfect hand-held snack for any occasion. Juicy tomatoes, fragrant basil, and creamy mozzarella are drizzled with a simple garlic-balsamic dressing for an irresistible bite that’s both elegant and easy.

Ingredients

24 cherry or grape tomatoes

24 fresh mini mozzarella balls (plain or marinated)

24 fresh basil leaves

1 ½ tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1 ½ tablespoons balsamic vinegar

1 small garlic clove, finely minced

Kosher salt, to taste

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

24 toothpicks or small skewers

Instructions

  1. Assemble the Skewers:
Thread one tomato onto a toothpick, followed by a basil leaf and then a mozzarella ball. Repeat until all ingredients are used. Arrange the skewers neatly on a platter.

  2. Make the Dressing:
In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and minced garlic until well combined.

  3. Drizzle & Season:
Lightly drizzle the dressing over the assembled skewers. Sprinkle with kosher salt and a few turns of freshly ground black pepper.

  4. Serve & Enjoy:
Serve immediately, or chill briefly in the fridge until ready to serve. To enjoy, simply bite all the layers off the skewer in one delicious mouthful!

Notes

  • Use ripe, sweet cherry tomatoes for the best flavor balance.
  • Mini mozzarella pearls work best for presentation and portion size.
  • Fresh basil makes a difference — avoid using wilted or refrigerated leaves, which can darken quickly.
  • For extra shine, lightly brush skewers with olive oil before serving.
  • These appetizers are a great way to use homegrown basil and tomatoes in summer!
