Ingredients

½ cup light brown sugar, lightly packed

¼ cup Dutch-process cocoa powder, spooned and leveled

¼ cup SunButter (or other nut/seed butter)

Pinch of salt

1 cup dark chocolate, chopped

1 tsp vanilla extract

3 cups (24 oz) milk

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the sugar, cocoa powder, SunButter, and salt. Stir continuously until smooth and fully blended.

  2. Add the chopped dark chocolate and vanilla extract. Stir over medium heat until completely melted and smooth.

  3. Gradually pour in the milk, one cup at a time, whisking continuously until fully combined.

  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then remove from heat. Serve immediately.

  5. Optional: Top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a sprinkle of cocoa powder for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Serve hot and stir well before each sip.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 1 day; reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave.
  • For a thicker hot chocolate, use half-and-half instead of milk.
  • SunButter adds a mild, nutty flavor; almond or peanut butter can be substituted if desired.
