Ingredients
½ cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
¼ cup Dutch-process cocoa powder, spooned and leveled
¼ cup SunButter (or other nut/seed butter)
Pinch of salt
1 cup dark chocolate, chopped
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 cups (24 oz) milk
Instructions
-
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the sugar, cocoa powder, SunButter, and salt. Stir continuously until smooth and fully blended.
-
Add the chopped dark chocolate and vanilla extract. Stir over medium heat until completely melted and smooth.
-
Gradually pour in the milk, one cup at a time, whisking continuously until fully combined.
-
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then remove from heat. Serve immediately.
-
Optional: Top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a sprinkle of cocoa powder for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Serve hot and stir well before each sip.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 1 day; reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave.
- For a thicker hot chocolate, use half-and-half instead of milk.
- SunButter adds a mild, nutty flavor; almond or peanut butter can be substituted if desired.
