Ingredients
250 g / 8 oz cream cheese (block-style, chilled – not spreadable)
180 g / 6 oz large sliced salami (preferably spicy or smoked)
1/4 cup baby capers, drained
2 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (parsley, chives, or basil)
Crackers or toasted baguette slices, for serving
Instructions
-
Roll the cream cheese:
Place the cream cheese block between two large sheets of cling film. Use a rolling pin (or a can) to flatten it into a rectangle about 32 x 23 cm (13 x 9 in). Chill for 5 minutes if it softens too much. -
Layer the salami:
Remove the top layer of cling wrap. Arrange salami slices over the cream cheese, slightly overlapping to form a solid layer. -
Flip and fill:
Place another sheet of cling wrap on top, press gently, then flip so the cream cheese side faces up. Remove the top wrap and sprinkle evenly with capers and herbs. -
Roll it up:
Starting from the long edge, roll tightly while peeling away the cling wrap. Roll firmly to avoid air pockets. -
Chill:
Wrap the roll securely in the same plastic wrap, twist the ends, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight) to firm up. -
Slice and serve:
Unwrap and cut into 1 cm (½ in) slices. Serve on crackers or as part of a charcuterie board.
Notes
- Salami size: Use large round deli-style salami slices — they’re easier to roll than smaller rounds.
- Add-ins: You can include diced pickles, roasted peppers, or a touch of Dijon mustard for extra flavor.
- Make-ahead tip: The roll can be made up to 2 days in advance. Slice just before serving for the best presentation.
- Serving idea: Pair with sparkling drinks or light wine — the mild sweetness complements the creamy, salty flavor perfectly.
- Storage: Keep leftovers refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days
