Hi, I’m Madilyn!
Welcome to Yumsplash.com — I’m Madilyn Larson, a born-and-bred girl from the Midlands with a wooden spoon in one hand and, quite often, a toddler perched on my hip. After growing up surrounded by the vibrant food culture of Manchester, I now live just outside London with my husband, Tom, and our three little taste-testers: Emma (8), Jack (6), and our youngest food critic, Lily (2).
From Office Life to Oven Life
Believe it or not, I spent nearly a decade working as a marketing executive before realising my daily planner was filled with more meal ideas than meeting notes. What began as a simple Instagram page to share quick weekday dinners with friends slowly grew into Yumsplash.com — my full-time passion project that now reaches more than half a million monthly readers across the UK and beyond.
I’ll never forget the day my Caramelised Onion & Goat’s Cheese Tart went viral — I made all of £2.80 in ad revenue and called everyone I knew! That little win gave me the push I needed to turn my love of cooking into something truly special.
Why I Started Recipeside
Let’s be honest — life’s busy enough without having to overthink dinner every night. After our second child was born, I found myself stuck in a cycle of the same five meals on repeat. Sound familiar?
So, I set out to create recipes that tick three very important boxes:
- ✅ They’re doable on busy weeknights
- 👨👩👧👦 They please both fussy kids and grown-up taste buds
- 💛 They bring a bit of joy back to the dinner table
Every dish on this site has passed the ultimate test — my family. If my pickiest eater (that’s you, Jack!) gives it a thumbs up, you can trust it’s a keeper.
My Cooking Philosophy
I truly believe good food doesn’t have to be complicated. My recipes are a mix of my Manchester roots (yes, I’ll forever love a proper pie) and influences from my nan’s Italian kitchen, along with inspiration from our family holidays around Europe.
You won’t find any pretentious ingredients or fussy methods here — just honest, reliable recipes that work in real British kitchens with real families. I test every single one multiple times until it’s just right (and until Tom, my ever-honest taste tester, finally says, “You’ve nailed it”).
Behind the Scenes
When I’m not cooking up a storm, you’ll likely find me cheering at Emma’s football matches, trying to keep my herb garden alive, or unwinding with a cheeky glass of rosé while watching cooking competitions after the kids are tucked up in bed.
My kitchen is small but mighty — nothing fancy, just your average UK kitchen with limited counter space and an oven that always seems to run a bit too hot. If I can make these recipes work here, you definitely can in yours too!
